According to a newspaper article, there is a group working on the creation of a brick and mortar charter school in Washington County, possibly in the Ringgold School District in Monongahela. Currently there are no charter schools in Washington County, based on the PA Department of Education’s educational entity directory.
It is probably not a stretch to say that wherever the charter ends up locating the reception from the district within whose boundaries it is established will be chilly. A 2015 report by the state’s Legislative Budget and Finance Committee examined other methods by which charters could be approved, but the process has not changed. A recent instance in the Pittsburgh Public School District over renewal of existing charters went to the Court of Common Pleas over the length of approval by the District. There is an appeal process currently, and this past summer there was a new division created within the state Department of Education to monitor charters.
