Putting Pittsburgh in a Comparative Spotlight

How does Pittsburgh stack up on spending, taxes, and public employees?  Are its legacy costs out of line, or within national norms?  How big are its related authorities, and what is the impact of its public schools?  Is Pittsburgh’s performance on these variables getting better or worse?

In order to answer these questions, the Allegheny Institute is proud to present its newest report, “Pittsburgh and the Benchmark City: 2010 Update”.  Revisting a concept we first explored six years ago, our report examines four regional hub cities across the U.S., amalgamates their characteristics, and uses this Benchmark City to gauge Pittsburgh’s performance.
