Eight Counties Now in Line for Piggy-Back Auto Fee

Since a blog entry written at the beginning of October on the local share fee authorized for counties under Act 89 of 2013, four additional counties have decided to tack on the optional $5 registration fee for automobiles: from west to east, Westmoreland, Dauphin, Bucks, and Philadelphia.  Adding Bucks and Philadelphia to the mix with Allegheny, which already has authorized the fee, means that three of the five largest counties in PA will collect the fee.

PENNDOT will collect the fee and then remit it back to counties, and it has written up a guide on what type of vehicles are subject to the fee and the permissible uses of the fee revenues.
