What is the financial condition of municipalities in Allegheny County?  For example: on a per capita basis, how much are they spending and how much money are they bringing in?

The tables document the per capita finances of the municipalities in Allegheny County.  The data was gathered using each municipality's Municipal Annual Audit and Financial Report.  This report is submitted by the municipality to the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and then placed online.  For 2010 we included only those municipalities that lie completely within Allegheny County.  As a result McDonald and Trafford were excluded because they only partially lie within Allegheny County.  The City of Pitsburgh was excluded  because their level of spending and taxation is so much higher than the smaller municipalities that the data would have been heavily skewed.  The data for the City of Pittsburgh can be found in Allegheny Institute report 2010-02.  Therefore the sample represents 127 of Allegheny County's 130 total municipalities.  To arrive at the per capita amounts, we used the 2010 Census population count for each municipality as provided by the U.S. Census Bureau.  All values are rounded up to the nearest dollar and some minor spending and revenue categories were not reported in the tables.
